Helpful tips for painting & crafting:
- The easiest & most accessible method for attaching the felt is to brush on a layer of PVA glue like school glue, wood glue, or mod podge. Excessive amounts of glue will be absorbed by the felt and leech through to the other side (which causes rough/hard patches on the felt once dried), so we recommend using a conservative amount!
- Acrylic paints are recommended, but feel free to experiment with other materials! Some acrylic paints are better suited for plaster than others. We've found that craft grade paints tend to bond better to the plaster as opposed to paints that are designed to be used on canvas.
- Using paint washes (watered-down paint) is a fantastic way to create dimensional layering effects, but be mindful that the plaster material will promptly absorb any water that comes into contact with it. You may want to wait a day between painting washes to allow the plaster to fully dry out between layers.
Pieces are first hand-sculpted with clay, molded, and then reproduced with gypsum cement (AKA plaster of Paris). Once hardened, these sculptures take on a stone-like appearance and feel. Plaster sculptures may be gently cleaned with a dry or damp cloth or soft brush, and are recommended for indoor display only.
Note: Since each item is individually handmade, there will be slight variations in the color and pattern of the finished product(s) that you receive.
